The Shepherd's Call

Chapter 4: An Introduction to Leading Your Family

Ryan Wassell · August 11, 2024 · Shepherd Leader at Home

Leadership has always been an important topic to consider, both for Christians and non-Christians. The best leaders, whether they be in business, military, or politics, are able to influence others to accomplish a goal. For ecclesiastical leaders, the goal is to shepherd the flock and advance Christ’s kingdom. For Christian parents, the goal is to have our children know the Lord, trusting and walking with him to bring him glory. But, as Witmer reminds us, “it is easy to be diverted from this fundamental commitment of spiritual vitality and growth in a success-oriented, materialistic culture” (67).

It is easy to be diverted from this fundamental commitment of spiritual vitality and growth in a success-oriented, materialistic culture.
— Timothy Z. Witmer

A few questions to consider:

  1. How well are you communicating the above priorities to your children?

  2. What are you doing to lead them toward these objectives?

  3. If married, sit down with your spouse and discuss your goals with your family?

  4. Do they reflect the Lord’s priorities?

Come, worship the Lord with us

Worship at half past ten each Sunday. The Lord’s Day is the market day of the soul — keep it with the church.
